The Koyukon Gate
Koyukon, Alaska. The image of isolation and rugged individualism. Founded in 1896 during the Alaskan Gold Rusk, the tiny town has shrunk to a population that you can count on your hands and toes. The only real local businesses are a gas station, truck mechanic, and an old two story house one of the locals turned into a bed and breakfast for passers-by and truckers. The rest of the population mostly lives off the land and makes their last bit of income from selling fire wood, furs, fish, and doing odd jobs. The community is tight knit out of necessity. In the winter when snow makes it hard to get to the closest supermarket that's two hours away when there isn't two feet of snow, you need to be able to rely on your neighbor. Even though not everyone gets along, they have enough care for each other to make do out in the modern frontier. One day while hunting in the woods one of the locals discovers something incredible. There is a shimmering portal, not much larger than a door, that leads to a place unlike anything he had ever seen. Word finds its way around town, and soon everyone wants to lay their eyes upon this anomaly. But it swiftly becomes apparent that this gate to another world is much more than any of them every bargained for.
If you want to join this RP, fill out this form for each of your characters. You can either play as an individual or as a household of up to three people. This household could be a family, or it could just be roommates. The max is three characters, but don't be afraid to play fewer.
There's three businesses in Koyukon: The gas station, the truck mechanic, and the bed and breakfast. Ownership of these businesses is first come first server. These people will have the most money out of everyone in the town, but are in no way rich, and have obligations to their businesses. You can have your character just work at the mechanic or the gas station, but I think the B&B will just be one family or individual. All other players will mostly be living off the land and selling stuff or doing odd jobs for money. Once we have a few people signed up, we'll talk out the different characters' relationships with each other. The RP is going to start in early September, and temperatures are going to be between 32F and 50F (0C to 10C) most days, and will get frigid during the winter, down to -2F to -18F on average during January (-19C to -28C) with heavy snow.
